Uncovering hidden flavors in our communities

I move through my day judging it by the experiences it offers. I think most people do.
I drive Highway 380 often and I can't really rate that as a particularly pleasant experience. Most of my trips up and down 380 are done in the morning, and as traffic is slow, it gives me a lot of time to observe all the building that is taking place and seeing all the new businesses that are springing up, many of them new restaurants.

One restaurant I watched with particular anticipation was Tokyo House. Their hours include lunch and dinner, so one hot evening found me back on 380 headed to try them out.
The clean, modern design that welcomes you outside is repeated throughout the interior with clean lines and cool colors. But the experience started with our server, who was knowledgeable about the menu and wasn't afraid to offer suggestions. The menu is full without being overdone.
I started with Stuffed Crab Jalapeños. They were filled with crab meat and cream cheese and deep fried—they were a flavorful, spicy start. There were many new offerings, and for my salad, I chose the Crunchy & Crab Salad. Crunch from both cucumber and panko, combined with crab, made for great texture!
Then on to my rolls. They had two I was not familiar with, so of course I had to try them. How could I pass up the Awesome Roll, with shrimp, tuna and spicy mayo, and the Denton Roll, with crab, cream cheese and eel sauce? Both of the rolls were baked, which brought out the filling flavors and gave them a beautiful texture.
I was too full to try any more, but you could make many more visits and enjoy eating your way through the menu!
The experiences of this day were tasty and satisfying and made that Highway 380 drive pleasant too!
