380 Update: A Major Milestone for Denton County

After more than seven years of construction, one of North Texas' most talked-about road projects is finally crossing the finish line. Denton County will celebrated the completion of the US 380 improvement project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, June 22.

Construction began in January 2019 and was completed in two phases, stretching from Loop 288 in Denton all the way to the Collin County line. The project was designed to improve mobility, increase capacity, and ease congestion in one of the fastest-growing areas in Texas.

Perhaps the most noticeable improvements are the five new grade separations at FM 720, Navo Road, FM 423, Teel Parkway, and Legacy Drive. Drivers can now move through major intersections more efficiently while benefiting from enhanced safety.

The $160 million project also widened portions of US 380 from four to six lanes, added raised medians, improved turn lanes, and created better pedestrian access with new sidewalks and curbs near businesses and schools.

For longtime residents who have patiently navigated orange barrels and traffic delays, the completion of the project marks more than just smoother commutes, it represents another important step in supporting the continued growth and prosperity of northeast Denton County.
