As you are driving through Oak Point, you may have seen men on horseback playing polo. You may have even known that polo clubs exist in Oak Point, however; many do not know that polo games are open to the public to come and watch, bring a picnic, tailgate and cheer for your favorite team. On special occasions there will be food for purchase. Oak Point is located north of Dallas and west of Frisco with six individually owned world class polo fields. The summer season begins the first weekend in May through mid July. The fall season will begin the first weekend in September through mid November. The games are held on Saturday evenings providing a great family outing.
Many may not know the rules of the game, but feel free to ask a nearby tailgater, or you can sign up for polo lessons. The polo club also offers horse boarding, corporate outings and charity events supporting organizations, such as Bryan’s House and The Family Place. Oak Point is also home to many members of the Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas. This organization promotes polo in Texas and helps raise money for worthwhile charities.
The fall schedule has been created, and you can view it at http://oakpointpolo.com/schedule.htm. A Texas/ OU tournament is being planned to coincide with the football weekend. The event will feature a team from Oklahoma’s Broad Acres polo club, managed by world’s highest rated female polo player, Sunny Hale. The opposing team will be from Texas carrying on the theme of the Texas/OU football game. On November 8th-4th an Annual “Polo on the Midway” game will benefit the charity Bryan’s House. Bryan’s House takes care of children with serious medical needs. Those who are interested in sponsoring or volunteering at this event should email dena@henrysmiller.com.Vendors are welcome with a donation. Also, a “GermanFest” is being planned for October. All events are presented by the Ladies Polo Auxiliary of Texas.
Oak Point Polo operates in association with Las Colinas Polo Club. The Clubs include Stonebriar Polo Club, Willow Bend Polo Club, Santa Anita Polo Club and Mokarow Farms Polo Club.
