Whatever Happened To The Summer Picnic?

By: Dishy Diva

Picnic
Picnics are diverse, and are a good way to spend family time or, of course, romantic time.  Another great thing about picnics is they can fit any budget. Plan your dinning experience under a large oak tree, near the water’s edge, in a local park or possibly under the stars. Any of these scenic locations are exceptional for the comforting quality of a picnic in the great outdoors. The 380 corridor offers several places to enjoy a picnic including Lake Ray Roberts in Pilot Point, South Lake Park on Hobson Road between Teasley Lane and FM 1830 in Denton and Lake Lewisville in Little Elm.

Picnic
While planning what to pack in your picnic basket or cooler, consider some of these summer favorites. You can toss potato and pasta salads with green, red or yellow peppers. Throw in some cherry tomatoes, zucchini or yellow squash for a rainbow of color. Also, consider brightening up chicken salad by adding large pieces of peaches or apricots; sure to add a burst of summer flavor. Fill Italian focaccia bread with your favorite sandwich meats and cheeses then drizzle with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Compliment salads with papaya or mango chunks or strips; top with tasty vinaigrette or fruit flavored yogurt dressing. Remember to bring plenty of liquids but try to pack beverages low in sugar. Spritzers are a great option and can be prepared or purchased in many flavors. Whatever you decide to pack remember basic food safety so that your picnic memories are not lost to unfortunate events later!

Picnics seem to shout out sunshine, laughter and smiles for all ages. With the rising cost of gas, everyone is cutting somewhere and picnics are a great form of entertainment at an affordable price. Have fun and happy picnicking!
