David & Jodie Prickett
Jodie and David Prickett moved to the Dallas Metroplex from Tulsa in 1998. In Tulsa, Jodie owned a successful boutique, featuring fashion swimwear and a tanning salon, Electric Beach. She later sold the boutique to return to school (Oklahoma State University) and finished her degree in Art History. David has a background in Culinary Arts specializing in French Cuisine. He owned and operated Avanti’s Catering and Green Valley Grill and gained esteemed recognition as a high-end caterer for businesses and weddings. With a desire to move to a larger city, an opportunity presented itself to the couple to move to Dallas where David would run and assist with opening new locations for a quickly growing privately owned restaurant chain. They have two children, Taylor 18 and Julian 7. The hours David worked in the restaurant industry was keeping him away from the activities and sports of their oldest child, and with the birth of Julian he decided to move into corporate dinning to have evenings and weekends to spend time with his family. Jodie worked as a Qualified Mental Retardation Professional for the private sector and the state of Texas. After six years in the field she decided it was too far removed from her passion of art, and wanted to make a serious change. Ultimately, the desire to have more time with their children and each other paved the way to their business today.
In 2004, they built a home in Savannah and Jodie decided to stay at home for a while. While at home, she realized she was in an information vacuum and received little or no information about the area. There was never anything in the mail and despite their subscription to an area newspaper, it rarely made it to their door. David and Jodie found themselves discussing this regularly and decided to start a website, 380Guide.com to provide a portal of information to the residents living in the master planned communities on HWY 380. The site became widely popular and it is one of the highest-ranking websites in Denton and Collin County. After a year of unexpected success with businesses contacting them to advertise on their site, they decided to grow the business to a bi-monthly publication, 380Guide. Almost a year to the day from when the website went live the publication arrived in peoples mailboxes. Once again, the residents and businesses in the 380 corridor were welcoming. The magazine received support from the entire corridor and developed a loyal readership of over 90,000, and the Pricketts decided to examine the need for information once again in the corridor. The magazine provides local information about events, places and people, but it defiantly falls into the “lifestyle” category. While people want the lifestyle information and enjoy it, they also wanted information about development and growth in the area. They wanted news; not just any news, but area specific news. After meeting with Michael and Melissa Ryan, they collaborated and developed P & R Publishing Group, forming a newspaper for the corridor, 380News. Ironically, the first issue of 380News arrived in the mailboxes of the 380 corridor almost a year to the day of 380Guide’s inaugural issue. 380News is a monthly publication with a readership of 36,000 and growing.
Even with the unexpected success and expediential growth, the publications are doing exactly what the Pricketts designed them to do; provide the 380 corridor with a cohesive form of much needed information and allow the Pricketts time with their children.
